Default Reykjavik Open 2012 - Special package for Canadian players!

    From Gunnar Björnsson:

    Dear Canadian Chess Friends!

    Happy new year!

Reykjavik Open will be held in Harpa, Reykjavik´s spectacular new music hall on the harbour.

In co-operation with Icelandair we offer special package for Canadian players, who wants to participate. The package includes flight (from Boston, New York and Seattle ), hotel and 25% discount of entrance fee. Please notice that flight between New York and Iceland is only 5 hours!

I would be very grateful if you could forward or publish the information so as many Canadian chess players as possible could know about this special package which we have made for them.

There will be a strong field. Fabiano Caruana and David Navara are among more than 20 grandmasters who participate. Total number of players will be around 150-200.

Note also there there are non-stop flights to/from Toronto, but during the time of the tournament (March) they are only once a week (Sundays, in both directions), and may not be eligible for the special deals.

Three players from Canada. Michael Dougherty and David Cummings I am well familiar with, but there's just this sneaking suspicion that Mike Murray CAN is from Seattle and took advantage of the aforementioned sweet deal, using Seattle as the origin. Welcome to Canada, Mike! I played Mike (from Seattle) in 1968. Games on TWIC.

Dougherty and Cummings finished with 5-4 each. Mike Murray (4.5) is indeed who I thought he was. His FIDE record shows three appearances at the Grand Pacific Open in Victoria, a convenient boat ride from the Seattle area.
