Wycc 2011
The largest Canadian Contingent (40 players, 73 in total) is in fighting form at the World Youth Chess Championships in Caldas Novas Brazil.
The event website is www.wycc2011.com and the Canadian Team has a blog at http://wycc2011canada.blogspot.com/
Thanks to the organizers of the 2011 CYCC and the CFC Executive, we are fortunate to have 3 coaches for the team (Mikhail Egorov, IM Nikolay Noritsyn and FM Andrew Peredun) who have been coaching our kids before and after the games.
There have been some issues with accomodations and organization, but most are now being worked out.
As a result of the initial issues, I have been able to arrange for a separate "Team Canada Room" at the hotel.
Internet is spotty, getting a bit better and our room has great internet, not sure how long it'll last.
There was much excitement last night as there was a 20 minute blackout at 9 pm and again at 2 a.m.
Please check the blog for all updates and a whole bunch of photos were just added

EXTRA SPECIAL thanks! go to our Head of Delegation - Andrew Giblon and Assistant Head of Delegation - Gary Gladstone for all of their hard and time-consuming work, both leading into and during the event! Together they rallied the team, brought it together in Brazil and conquered many issues onsite making the whole event what I am sure will be a very memorable one for all participants!
Thanks also to the 3 coaches: Nikolay Noritsyn, Andrew Peredun and Mikhail Egorov ... from the accounts I am getting (and seeing in pictures), all 3 of these guys were working dawn to dusk helping to prepare our players and seeing as many kids as they could. Congratulations go to these guys, as I am sure that many of the good results we got were certainly helped along with them.
I am looking forward to hearing lots of stories from you guys and from the whole team!

Thanks to the coaches and everyone involved who made this a great experience for the children playing. I am looking forward to hearing firsthand from the children about their experiences tonight and in the coming weeks.
