Thread: Chess Olympiad - Canada

  1. #21

    Default Women's - Rd. 4 - In Progress

( 1:08 PM ) Now Irina has won her game on Bd. 4 so Canada leads 1.5 -.5

Dagne got a nice tactical exchange where she has ended up with R + 2 connected, passed pawns on the 6th rank vs B + N.

Hazel's game is still in progress but she is down a passed P.

    Default Women's - Rd. 4 - Completed

Yuanling has lost. The match is tied so far.

Hazel's game is still in progress, but to me she looks lost - she has N vs 2 connected passed P's on the 3rd and 4th rank, and her K is way out of position.

Immediate Update - Hazel just resigned.

    So final score : Canada 1.5 - 2.5 England .

    Default Rd. 5 Pairings

    Canada lost both matches in Rd. 4 : 1.5 - 2.5 [ National team ( # 43 ) vs Scotland ( # 46 ); Women's ( # 53 ) vs England ( # 31 )].

    Pairings for Rd. 5 :

    National Team - Bd. 27 Yemen ( # 82/ 4 MP/ 6.5 GP ) vs Canada ( # 43/ 4 MP/ 10.5 GP )
    Women's - Bd. 21 Nigeria ( # 111/ 4 MP/ 5.5 GP ) vs Canada ( # 53/ 4 MP/ 9.5 GP )

As in Rd. 3, Canada's opponents for Rd. 5 are substantially weaker, and we should see some good results.

Canada's National team is now in 52nd place ( of 154 - worse than their ranking ) and the women's team is 40th ( of 114 - better than their ranking ).

For not online Olympiad games, the best source is TWIC. Mark Crowther takes all online games and puts into a one file per round. The link http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/twic.html

www.chessbase.com and www.chessbase.de offer picture reports (haven't seen any Canadian face yet or haven't recognized

A little bit related to Canada: Irina Krush and Lev Psakhis (now the coach for India) at http://russiachess.org/content/view/2921/377

Default Rd. 5 - National Team - In Progress

    Rd. 5 National Team Pairing - Bd. 27 Yemen ( # 82/ 4 MP/ 6.5 GP ) vs Canada ( # 43/ 4 MP/ 10.5 GP )

On Bd. 4 , IM Nikolay Noritsyn, 2007 Canadian Champion, plays IM Basheer Al Qudaimi. I ( read Fritz ) will be doing live analysis of this game on the chess website, Chess5 ( www.chess5.com ) - today I have the colours right - LOL !! Go to the homepage and click on " Public Games " to get the November list of games. Find the game and click on " View " and you will get a board and the score, with analysis ( it takes a few seconds for the game to load ). Hope you find it interesting.

    Default URL for the schedule?

Anyone find the playing schedule for the Olympiad? The main website is great for the current results and live or pgn games, but I haven't found much else... for example, is today (Mon Nov 17th) a rest day?
