CFC Family Membership: “6. Any spouse and/or child or sibling of an Ordinary Member of the CFC who is resident at the Ordinary Member's address and who purchases his membership at the same time may join the CFC at a rate 50% lower than the applicable individual membership rate. Such spouse and/or child or sibling will enjoy all rights and privileges of CFC membership except that they will not receive the magazine."

Although not precisely worded, the section is interpreted that the family member pays half the adult rate, even if a junior. Also a life member cannot open up a family membership for their spouse or children ( adult or junior ) or brothers/sisters. The meaning of “ resident ‘ is not clear as to whether an access parent ( where the child comes 2 days every 2 weeks, for example ) can open up a membership for the child not in their custody. A consideration is whether the family member is satisfied not to receive the e-newsletter, Canadian Chess News.

Obviously it needs some updating. The reason they did not receive the magazine was to save the mailing costs and thus get them a cheaper membership at no real cost to the CFC.

"50% lower than the applicable individual membership rate" seems clear to me; 50% off what the additional member would have paid without the family connection... I am not sure where you get the 'adult rate' inference?

The wording needs to be corrected, Kerry. It is half off the adult rate. We (Bob A and I) confirmed this with both the President and Executive Director last year.

It should use "ordinary" as per the Handbook. The CFC has no adult membership. Even the Section 2 has no "adult" word.
Thus, the page http://chess.ca/membership-rates should be corrected.
