Dear Daxin,
Due to unfortunate date conflict between Canadian Youth Chess Championship and Pan-American Youth Chess Championship, this year Canada won't participate at the Pan-American Youth Chess Championship in Cali Columbia.
We expect all best Canadian players to participate at Canadian Youth Chess Championship at this time.
We really appreciate your and whole Organizing Committee's work for organizing 2011 CYCC in Richmond Hill, and looking forward for the great event!
Thanks,
Michael Barron
"DUTIES OF OFFICERS
YOUTH COORDINATOR
8B. The Youth Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating our participation in the World Junior Championship, the World Girls Championship, the WYCC, the Pan-American Junior and Youth Championships, The North American Junior and Youth Championships, the World Youth Chess Olympiad, and any other FIDE-related junior tournaments. The Youth Coordinator will be responsible for finding organizers for the Canadian Junior Championship and the Canadian Youth Chess Championships [...]"
As far as everyone know, Michael did find an organizer for CYCC, but on the list of duties is listed "coordinating our participation" not "coordinating our non participation" at Pan-American Youth.
I believe Michael is acting in good faith supporting CYCC instead of non Canadian event, and after a short email exchange we decide to go to CYCC not to Pan-AM. So if any of the Canadian players would like to play in Pan-Am youth and not at CYCC, they have the right to CFC support.
Andrei
Thank you, Andrei, for making the right choice!
Hopefully, all Canadian players and their parents understand that CYCC is much more important than any non Canadian event.
Thanks,
Michael Barron
Few weeks ago, playing on Canadian Closed, I was asked by Michael about this matter. My answer was CYCC is much more important than every other tournament (except WYCC) for Canadian kids.
I also believe that player can't qualify for WYCC by playing Pan-Am instead of CYCC, unless he or she finishes first and becomes "official player".
Of course, everyone in Canada has his own choice, but for chess in Canada is better to have all strong kids playing on CYCC and not somewhere else.
Will be very happy to see Andrei Botez in Richmond Hill. He is probably the most optimistic and positive guy involved in Canadian chess.
