Not to be picky, but I thought Mark resigned rather than playing Kh1 leading to Ng3 mate...
The alternative was RxNf3 but that just loses the Queen...
anyway, the mate with both Knights was very elegant.

    Hi Kerry:

Not picky - in chess, one should be scrupulously accurate, in my opinion.

I should have indicated it was a threatened mate, with a loss of Q alternative. But at the time of the post, I had not played over the game, and just took a quick look at the final position ( shows somewhat my mediocre playing strength, that I didn't grasp everything in the position ).

I will be analyzing the game for the Scarborough CC Newsletter of Feb. 15, and I expect to see that Mark held his own for a while, but then Dmitry organized his attack forces quite, as you say, " elegantly ".

No worries... I saw the Knight mate and immediately my heart sank when I realized that sacking the rook for the other Knight (on f3) would leave the Queen hanging... I haven't looked at the entire game, but the final 'combination' is a very nice one. As always, it is better to give than receive.

I look forward to your comments in the SCC newsletter (by the way, I seem to have become unsubscribed somehow - can you fix that problem for me?! <g>)

    Hi Kerry:

You're back on the free subscribers' list - don't know how you got inadvertantly eliminated.

I'm sending you our Feb. 1 Issue - has a number of Mark's Tata Steel games, analyzed. If anyone else would also like a copy of that Issue, just e-mail me ( bobarm@sympatico.ca ).
