Yeah I watched the last 10 or 15 moves, and he was down a pawn and had a passive B&N ending.

Tomorrow he is White against Pavel Maletin (2621), another Russian 2600 GM who is unknown to me. On board 36 (so we can see it!)

Mark won today on a non "televised" board and gets a tough pairing tomorrow: white against Russian Super GM Nikita Vitiugov (2709).

    Round 3 ( Thursday, Feb. 10 ) - In Progress

    Bd.16 GM Bluvshtein, Mark 1.0 CAN 2590 - GM Vitiugov, Nikita 1.0 RUS 2709 ( 5th seed )

At move 26, Mark is down a P, and Stockfish gives Vitiugov almost 3 P's advantage. Mark has doubled isolated P's, but is trying to assemble a K-side attack using the half-opened g-file.

    Bd.36 GM Roussel-Roozmon, Thomas 0.5 CAN 2500 - GM Maletin, Pavel 0.5 RUS 2621

At move 28, Thomas has a K-side attack going, and material is equal, but Stockfish gives Maletin about a 1/4 P advantage.

Mark seemed to just get outplayed from move 10. I'm sure he'll be disappointed with this one.

I think Thomas missed a couple of different chances to get a near winning advantage earlier. He's in time trouble, and probably would be happy to now pull out a draw.

    Round 3 - In Progress

    Bd.16 GM Bluvshtein, Mark 1.0 CAN 2590 - GM Vitiugov, Nikita 1.0 RUS 2709 ( 5th seed )

At move 35, Mark is down 3 P's, and Stockfish gives Vitiugov over 4 P's advantage. A pair of R's are being exchanged, and Mark has little left to attack with, and Vitiugov has good pawn cover for his K. I think Mark will have to resign soon.

    Round 3 - Result

    Bd.36 GM Roussel-Roozmon, Thomas 0.5 CAN 2500 .5 - .5 - GM Maletin, Pavel 0.5 RUS 2621

At move 38, Thomas drew by a move repetition, down the exchange + 2 P's ( doubled and isolated ).

Wow, I'm not sure what happened there, but Thomas game doesn't look good at all after 14 Qc3 for white. My engine preferred 14 ...b6, and sacking the e pawn after 15 e4.

Mark is down on a lower board today, feeling the swiss yo-yo effect.
