I haven't been on this site for awhile, but I thought the CFC and FQE made peace. I would expect the FQE to be able to appoint CFC governors (A members) based on the numbers of FQE members, perhaps...
I'm dazed and confused when going online and there's no chesstalk. On the other hand, I have accomplished alot of spring cleaning this past week.
This is a small tourist town.
The entry fee is only $955 Canadian.
There's not really much money to be distributed - the OCA needs sponsors! I recall previous attempts to tie the Ontario Closed in with a fair or festival, getting a free site and maybe some freebies...

I don't think Burlington was part of GTCL 40-20 years ago, but was a recent addition. In 2004 Tomas Krnan of Burlington won the Toronto Closed; Only players in the GTCL area were elgible to play....

So you have most of the top juniors in Toronto, but is there a place for kids who have never played in a tournament and are looking for a place to play outside their school's chess club? There is not...
What a great turnout and rewards program. It is a model for other local clubs -- why can't Scarborough, Oriole and Willowdale also bring out 100 kids? I haven't seen that many kids at the Annex CC on...
Nice website. Pretty, child-friendly colours, and not text heavy. Could use some more photos/cartoons (for example, thumbnails with each blog posting, news and tournament results) and list more than...

Team play has been part of Canadian chess history, from the 1880s telegraph after-hours matches up to the 1980s teams travelling for the Ontario Team Championship or Montreal- Toronto matches in...
Congrats to Tanraj S Sohal who drew 2 FMs and won $6,355. Hard to win that in a Canadian tournament. Maybe it will go towards travel expenses to other tournaments.
In Under 2100 FM Jason Cao, 5-2,...
That's a sound idea, leading historic players before 1954, 2300 1954 to 1965,
2200 afterwards. Now left is proving 24 games for each master.
Thanks for your input, Jonathan. I think a couple of times Lawrence Day was a last minute Olympiad player. For these years I think the 2/3 score is an indication of master strength as these players...

Chessmetrics [CM] has some good points like pointing out players who have played in other countries before coming to Canada. But their ratings are higher than CFC of the same time period. And they...

The CFC has all kinds of volunteers who run CFC-rated tournaments and collect memberships, run local and school chessclubs, sit on local and provincial organizations and participate in online forums....
Should people post duplicates of videos that are online elsewhere? Or should the CFC link to them?
David Cohen has a list of chess in videos, TV and film:...
I look forward to seeing your calculations.
Edo takes the same position that top player of 1880 is rated 2700, super grandmaster of that time period. But note that even with these inflated edo...
THe statement that players scoring 50% in the Canadian Champion doesn't take into account the strength of the entrants. A 2/3 score would be more justified, being equal to the currently awarded...
