2014/2015 TREASURER’S REPORT
1. The financial statement for the year ending 30 April 2015 follows.
2. Total equity after accounts payable is $298,056. This total includes the Pugi Memorial Fund of $20,504, $46,684 held in trust for the CFC and $5,507 held in trust for the Saskatchewan Chess Federation. Funds are invested as itemized below.
3. Income from investments was $10,505 ($156 higher than last year).
4. Revenue from four life memberships was $1,890 (Zoltan Kiralv, Francois Dorion, Andrew Lehman and James Mourgelas,).
5. A cheque for $10,505 will be forwarded to the CFC for inclusion in the 2015/2016 budget, of which $923 is specified for the Pugi Fund to assist promising juniors.
6. I encourage all CFC members to consider the Chess Foundation of Canada when deciding on charitable gifting and/or estate planning. I would be pleased to act as a point of contact for anyone needing further information.

FIDE Report:
I am standing for re-election and I hope you will support me. The past year has been seen featured some wonderful highlights. Congratulations to WIM Qiyu Zhou for her World Championship performance at the WYCC in South Africa. Winning the U14 Girls title makes Qiyu our oldest reigning champion.
A number of challenges face our FIDE Zone in the coming year and I will help any way that I can to face them. We must fund our Olympic teams next year and we must organize a Women’s Zonal Championship in time for the Women’s World Championship Tournament, scheduled to start October 11, 2016
.
Recent Tournaments:
The 2015 Zonal Championship was held in Guelph, Ontario from July 10-16. Congratulations to our champion, IM Tomas Krnan. Tomas will join GM Anton Kovalyov, who qualified(!) at the Continental, at the 2015 World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan beginning September 5.
The North American Junior was held in Kitchener from July 26-30. 64 players from Canada and the USA took part. Congratulations to Guannan Terry Song who finished in third place, thereby earning the FM title and an IM norm.
Titles:
Despite stricter rules from FIDE, a number of titles and norms were in play during our Zonal this year. The CM title was earned by Joshua Doknjas.

In addition, FM titles have been earned by Olivier Kent Chikku-Ratte and Max Gedajlovic as of August 1. These application are in progress.
Transfers:
Russian Grandmaster and former World #4 Evgeny Bareev has moved to Canada and his transfer will take effect in August of this year. Ten years ago GM Bareev played his first games in Canada. Last week he played his final game under the Russian flag at the FIDE Kitchener Masters from July 31 – August 4. His 2700+ performance included 2 draws with Black.
Despite some grand efforts, no player norms were earned at the FIDE Kitchener Masters this year. However congratulations are due to FA Stephen Wright and FA Michael von Keitz for completing the requirements for their IA titles. They will join FA Jean Roger Boutin as upgraded Arbiters this year.
Politics:
Hopefully I will have more to say after the Congress in Abu Dhabi. I believe Kasparov is at least considering another run at the Presidency but I am less sure who is opponent will be.

Paul, have you ever attempted to extract the adults from the overall group, in terms of providing a more stable base. The only way of doing this would be to use the membership type - and this would only be approximate if you were going back more than one year, in the case of juniors who became adults, but stopped playing.Quote:

if paul's going to do stuff like that I'd love to see a TD list of 10 years ago broken down by province to see what %age of juniors then are still listed now. I once had a junior coordinator ready to punch me when I told him that the success of today's junior program was the %age of kids who still played as adults.
[In fairness the junior program >I< came from yielded peter biyiasas, jonathan berry, bruce harper, nigel fullbrook, paul brown, hee seid,robert chow, henry chiu - all fairly prominent in BC and nationally over the last 4 decades. Unlike the others, Len Molden and I never made master but Len's an expert who is now BCCF webmaster while me better known for my organizing and CFC activities - Len's contributions and mine won't be the sort of thing statistical analysis will show however.]
