News Item: Canadian Chess Volunteer of the Year
It was my distinct pleasure to present this years' award for Canadian Chess Volunteer of the Year at the Canadian Open awards ceremony yesterday to Maurice Smith.

We are blessed with many dedicated volunteers across the country. Organized chess in Canada would simply not exist without their tireless efforts. Maurice serves as a wonderful example for others to emulate.

Over the past 22 years, Maurice has served as CFC President, FIDE Rep, OCA President, and more recently as CFC Treasurer. On the local chess scene, he has a long distinguished history as President of the very successful Scarborough Chess Club.

Maurice, thank you!

News Item: Olympic Waive Tournaments
As some of you know I have agreed to take a leadership role in the fundraising our Olympic teams. One of the components in the campaign is a special type of tournament - The Olympic Waive Tournament

To qualify as an Olympic Waive Tournament, it must be advertised as such, and remit $20 per player to the Olympic Fund, and submit the tournament electronically. In return, the CFC will rate the tournament for free and WAIVE CFC membership.

I hope you will consider running an Olympic Waive Tournament.

News Item: Site infection fixed
For those of you who have been experiencing a reported attack site warning from Google or Firefox, we have managed to completely remove the infection as of December 29th and so the site is now safe to visit. We anticipate that the warning will be removed shortly once they have time to scan our site again.

I am still in the process of updating all of the pages to account for some of the changes, so some links are broken - the very first thing I did was totally delete the pages causing the vulnerabilities, which in fact were not even being officially used anymore.
