IM (elect) Aman Hambleton is playing in France. After 7 rounds he has 4.5, but sports a TPR of 2538, and stands to rake in some more rating points. With two rounds to go the leaders are GM Wirig (FRA) and IM Wagner (GER), with 6 points.
Eric lost his last round game to Istratescu (FRA), who tied for 1st as the other leaders (Grachev, Van Kampen, and Vajda) all drew.
This one escaped my attention. Eric has been playing in the 7rd swiss: Basel Chess Festival. After 6 rounds he is tied for 4th - 1/2 pt behind the leaders - GM's Grachev (RUS), Van Kampen (NED), and Vajda (ROU). In tomorrow's last round he is black against Andre Istratescu (ROU). http://www.schachfestivalbasel.ch/tu...isse-paarungen
Back in the Golden era of Chess and earlier (we'll define this as the 72 Fischer era and earlier part of the century), Hastings was the top name in International chess. Tradition still lives on with some of us, and I always like to have a look at this Christmas event. That look now reveals that Canadian IM Raja Panjwani (attending University in London) was one half point behind the leaders after 6 rounds. http://www.hastingschess.com/2013/SMWSite/index.html ...
IM Bindi Cheng finished with 5.5 out of 9 in Las Vegas ............ American GM Timur Gareev ran away with the event finishing a full point ahead of FM John Bryant, who upset GM Hammer (NOR) in the last round. Some other young American GM's were left scrambling, ie Shankland, Ramirez, Lenderman.
