6.2 Chess Foundation of Canada Trustees - One year term

The Chess Foundation of Canada is elected by the Voting Members of the Chess Federation of Canada and consists of FIVE members - 4 elected for a 4 year term (one elected each year) plus a 5th member elected for a one year term.

This thread is for nominations for the 4 year term. Nominations close at 6pm ET August 11 (Day 3) with elections continuing through 6pm ET August 15 - day 7. (Note that this is NOT the same polling period as for the positions nominated in threads 4.1 -> 4.9

The present Chess Foundation board is: (please note that 2015 means "expires at the 2015 AGM" - e.g. this one)

2011-2015 Micah Hughey
2012-2016 Paul Leblanc
2013-2017 Hans Jung
2014-2018 Hugh Brodie
2015-2015 Garland Best

What this means is that Micah Hughey (4 year term) and Garland Best (1 year term) will be leaving the Foundation board with the new board being Leblanc, Jung and Brodie plus the new 4 year trustee and the new 1 year trustee to be elected by the meeting of incoming VMs.

It has been a pleasure being a trustee with the Chess Foundation. Paul Leblanc has done an excellent job steering this fund, and the other trustees have provided thoughtful advice on how to best manage the fund. If there is a opportunity to continue contributing, i will be happy to do so.

In concert with our Nova Scotia executive, I am in the process of attempting to create a chess foundation for our Nova Scotia branch. I'd like to put my name forward for either of the 1 or 4 year positions. As part of my resume, in my previous life was a financial adviser / stock broker with Midland Doherty (before it was taken over by Scotia MacLeod). Having said that, I'm also prepared to bow out if there are other interested parties.

If Lloyd and I are the only nominated candidates for both 4 and 1 year positions, I will withdraw from the 4 year nomination and retain the 1 year nomination.

Garland Best, Lloyd Lombard and Lyle Craver are at the moment competing for the two available positions. It would seem logical to me that if Garland is elected he should get the 4 year position since he is just completing his one year term. If he is not elected then it doesn't matter whether Lyle or Lloyd gets the one year term vs the four year term as they will both be rookies, so to speak.

HI Paul:

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've been considering my options on the issue.

During my one-year term, I have admired your leadership as a trustee, making the purchases and recommending the various trades. One of the reasons I nominated Lloyd for the 4 year term was his experience as an investment broker. I noticed that your 4 tear term ends next year, and I'm thinking that should you decide to step down next year, someone with stong experience in such matters would make a valuable asset. While I have my own retirement fund to manage, I rely heavily on my investment advisor to make my investments. As a result I am reluctant to sign up for a 4 year term right now. This may change a year or two from now.

However, I am willing to assume another 1 year trustee term, should the other voting members wish me to do so. I enjoyed working with you this year.

There's nothing really to structure - these are two separate votes with the single proviso that whoever is elected to the 4 year position is ineligible for the 1 year position.
