Hamilton Winter Open 2009 will take place on the weekend of March 7-8.

The trend set by ours and Niagara's 2008 events indicate that chess tournaments are becoming more popular in the Golden Horseshoe area. We thank you all who made this success possible and we ask you to help us make chess even more successful in 2009.

At 40 dollars this tournament is one of the greatest deals in Southern Ontario yet you can still get a ten percent discount by emailing us by March 6. We take no profit for ourselves. Everything above our fees goes to the prize fund.

A MAJOR discount will also be available for titled players who commit to playing in our event by February 15. Titled players interested should email us asap for details.

Our tournament location is conveniently located across the street from a decent sized mall giving you access to food and other supplies between games.

This event is part of the SWOCL Grand Prix.

Congratulations to Roman Sapozhnikov and Alex Friedman who tied for 1st with 4.5/5.

We had a strong field with 47 players, up from 36 last year. Our Hamilton winter and summer weekend swiss's continue to grow.

Special congratulations to Alex Friedman with a huge upset win over Michael Dougherty in the final round.

Complete tournament report will be in the webzine.
