The CFC Regular Chess Post – Dec. 7/11 – CFC Moves Forward.

Recently CFC developed a brand new Website, involving many features not present in the old antiquated site. I as CFC Public Relations Coordinator, am attempting to make use of these new features. To this end, on the homepage under “ Latest News “, I have posted my “ CFC Regular Chess Post “, and some other news articles from time to time. These inform the members and public of Canadian chess news as it happens.

Also, we have now started using the “ videos “ section of the website ( link on homepage at bottom ) to further communicate chess news, etc. I and CFC President Michael von Keitz, have now had posted a number of videos:

1. the OMNI TV interview with IM Yuanling Yuan prior to her attending the 2010 Chess Olympiad;
2. the childhood of Jeff Sarwer, 1st Canadian U 10 Open World Champion;
3. the 1997 Canadian Open in Winnipeg.
4. the Great Chess Movie, directed by Canadian IM Camille Coudari.
5. Video Chess News segments by Shawn Geley, aka Friendlyman..

We would like to feature other top Canadian Chess players, and to this end am seeking television material on top FIDE rated Canadian GM, Mark Bluvshtein, 2010 Canadian U 10 years old World Champion, Jason Cao, and 2011 Canadian U 12 Open World Bronze Medalist, Michael Song.

We invite you to come and take a look at our rapidly expanding chess videos gallery.

Should people post duplicates of videos that are online elsewhere? Or should the CFC link to them?

David Cohen has a list of chess in videos, TV and film:

While I didn't find the TVO link still working, this CBC one is still accessable:

We're still working with this whole video thing. The nice thing about getting the rights to have the video on your site means that it won't just disappear someday.

Hi Erik:

I think the CFC should make available its own " chess vidoes " gallery. It is part of CFC's mandate to promote chess to the general public. We do not know if people go to YouTube to search out chess videos, or if they are aware of other sites listing them. But we can inform those attending the CFC Website about some of them.

I have a long list of them that CFC has now assembled, and am going through them to determine which ones might be most appropriate for our website videos gallery. Thank you for your references, and I have added them to my long list to review.

Bob, CFC Public Relations Coordinator.

One reason NOT to just link to the videos on Youtube is to avoid exposing people to the frequently juvenile comments that people post on Youtube...

The CFC should offer its own copies of videos whenever possible; I suppose offering a link in other cases would be ok (provided there is a disclaimer about not controlling the contents!)
