16. CFC Youth Committee – Report

Dear Governors,

I would like to thank all people who joined the CFC Youth Committee this year.
We have currently 16 Committee members, and very active (sometimes even overly heated :) ) discussions on the private CFC Youth Committee Forum.

You all can see results of these discussions:
- 2 competing bids for 2011 CYCC,
- new CYCC qualification system,
- 2 motions presented for discussion at this online meeting,
and many other positive developments...

And the main result you could see at any "adult" chess tournament - just count the number of young players... :)

Please help us to encourage children to play chess!
They are the future of our Federation!

One more topic worth inclusion in the "new business" at this meeting -
creating of new non-executive officer position of Youth Olympiad Coordinator.

As you know, last year Canadian Team participated in the World Youth Olympiad for the first time in the history, and made top 10 finish from the first attempt!

The Canadian participation in this prestigious event was possible only due to energy and organizational talent of the Team Captain - Gary Gladstone.

I would think, we should already start preparation to the next Youth Olympiad - planned for September this year - please see:

For this purpose we need a dedicated person, who will coordinated all activities related to the Youth Olympiad and serve as a Team Captain (unless decides to send somebody else).

It could be achieved by creation of new non-executive officer position of Youth Olympiad Coordinator.
